Abstraction of Survival

Fine and sterling silver, garnet. 2018

Made entirely by hand. The pendant was carved from wax before being casted. The chain was fused and individually linked.

This is a very abstract self portrait. The meaning behind this piece is to give an embodiment to what I have lived through, and how it has all affected me. Growing up I felt like a protector for my mother. Over the time, I have weakened in some areas and strengthened in others. The garnet in this piece is meant to sit inside the form, but has been ripped out and displayed to the world. It has left me stronger, yet weaker. It has torn me apart, but also given me a reason to stay together.
